What is the best platform for selling coaching courses?

7 min read1,634 wordsChecked 22 September 2026

This is the list where our own advantage is thinnest and it is worth saying so at the top. Kajabi builds better courses than we do, with a better checkout and a much better funnel around it.

The criterion here includes all three parts — hosting, structure and conversion — and Coachful ranks first because the course sits on the same client record as the coaching it is meant to lead to. That is a judgement about what a coach’s course is for.

If your course is the product rather than the on-ramp, the criterion is wrong for you and the answer is Kajabi.

The short answer

Ranked by video hosting, course structure and a checkout that converts, Kajabi is the strongest course builder here at $179 a month. Coachful is first on this list because the criterion includes the checkout and the coaching relationship around it, and we make it — but if the course is your business, buy Kajabi.

If recorded content is your revenue, buy from the category built for it rather than from a coaching platform with a course module.

Every tool, in detail

1

Coachful

Coachful hosts courses with structure and a checkout, on the same client record as the coaching engagement the course is meant to lead to.

On course building alone we rank below Kajabi and Thinkific and would rather state that plainly. What Coachful adds is the part after the sale: seeing which course buyers are worth approaching about coaching.

Best for

Coaches whose course exists to produce coaching clients.

Where it falls down

Kajabi and Thinkific both build courses more deeply than we do.

2

Kajabi

Kajabi has the deepest course builder and by far the best funnel and checkout tooling on this page. On the first two parts of this criterion it beats everything here including us.

Coaching programmes are partial and there is no scheduling, so a course buyer who becomes a coaching client is a contact here and a record somewhere else.

Best for

Businesses where course sales are the revenue and coaching is secondary.

Where it falls down

Partial coaching programmes, no scheduling, and the highest price here.

3

Thinkific

Thinkific is a strong, focused course platform with community attached, at $49 — less funnel depth than Kajabi and considerably more straightforward.

Video and coaching programmes are recorded as partial, so the coaching relationship is not modelled in any real sense.

Best for

Coaches who want focused course delivery without funnel complexity.

Where it falls down

Partial video and coaching programmes, so the coaching half runs elsewhere.

4

Teachable

Teachable is a strong, focused course platform and better than us at course delivery specifically.

It has no coaching layer at all, so a course buyer who becomes a coaching client exists in two systems with nothing connecting them.

Where it falls down

No coaching layer whatsoever.

5

Systeme.io

Systeme.io puts courses inside a funnel builder at $27, which is the cheapest way here to get a course with a converting sales page in front of it.

Course depth is basic and there is no coaching layer, so it answers the selling half and none of the relationship half.

6

Mighty Networks

Mighty Networks does cohort-based courses better than a standard course platform, because the group moving through together is the point rather than an add-on.

Coaching programmes are partial and there is no scheduling, so live one-to-one work is outside it.

Comparison registry, verified May 2026. Course depth is a qualitative judgement rather than a registry count, and it is the one place on this site where we rank below a competitor on the thing being measured.

Two different reasons to build a course

The course is the product. Revenue comes from course sales, coaching is a premium add-on, and the priorities are production quality, funnel depth and checkout conversion. Kajabi is the correct answer and it is not close.

The course is the on-ramp. Revenue comes from coaching, the course exists to produce qualified buyers, and the priority is seeing which buyers to approach. That conversion is the whole point and it requires both halves on one record.

Most coaches are in the second category and buy for the first, which is how a $179 subscription ends up hosting a course that earns less than the subscription does.

Building was never the hard part. Distribution is, which is why a course works best as an on-ramp to coaching rather than as income.

The honest commercial case for a coach building a course

It is not passive income. The median coach earns under $5,000 from a course in the first year, after three to six months of production, because building was never the constraint — distribution was.

The case that does hold is the ladder. A $297 course that converts 5% of buyers into a $3,000 coaching package is an excellent business, and the business is the coaching. At a hundred buyers that is five clients, and each one has to be noticed.

Which is why this criterion includes the relationship rather than only the builder. A course platform that cannot tell you which buyers became coaching clients is optimising the part that was never the problem.

Common questions

What is the best platform for coaching courses?

Kajabi builds the best courses here at $179 a month. Coachful is first on this list because the criterion includes the coaching relationship the course leads to, and we make it. If the course is your business rather than your on-ramp, buy Kajabi.

How much do coaches earn from courses?

The median is under $5,000 in the first year without an existing audience, after three to six months of production. Courses work as an entry product into coaching far more reliably than as standalone income.

Is Thinkific or Kajabi better?

Kajabi for funnels, email and checkout depth. Thinkific for straightforward course delivery with community attached at a lower price. Both record coaching programmes as partial.

What is the cheapest course platform?

Systeme.io at $27 a month, which runs courses inside a funnel builder. Course depth is basic and there is no coaching layer at all.

Do I need a separate platform for my course?

Only if the course is genuinely the product. If it exists to produce coaching clients, keeping both on one record is what makes the 5% conversion visible, which is the entire commercial argument for building one.

Should a coach build a course?

Once you have an audience, and as an entry point into coaching rather than as income. The median first-year return is under $5,000 without distribution, and three to six months of production is time a new practice rarely has spare.

How do I price a coaching course?

$297 to $2,000 is the observed range. Lower prices work as an on-ramp where the coaching is the revenue; higher ones need the course to be the product and the audience to already exist.

How long does building a coaching course take?

Three to six months alongside a practice, which is the real cost rather than the platform fee. For a new coach that is the same window that would otherwise have produced a first client through direct outreach.

The verdict

Kajabi builds better courses than we do. That is the honest position and a directory that could not say it would not be worth reading.

Coachful ranks first on the stated criterion because it includes what the course is for, and for most coaches a course is an on-ramp rather than a product. If yours is the product, the criterion is wrong for you and $179 is well spent.

How to disagree with this

The criterion is the whole argument. If breadth is not what you need, this order is irrelevant to you and a different list will serve you better. That is why there are several, each ordered by something different.

For a version of the same products with no ordering at all, the alphabetical directory lists every one of them and picks nothing.
